A volunteering trip with Projects Abroad will take you beyond the typical tourist experience on your next holiday adventure. We offer trips for all ages, from volunteer holidays for students, to volunteer holidays for over 50s. You can do things like:
- Work with animals on our conservation holidays abroad
- Help children learn important early childhood development skills
- Build vital infrastructure like houses and toilets
- Dig up the past and investigate ancient artifacts at an archaeological dig
We offer working holidays with a difference, and we believe in long-term, sustainable solutions. Not quick fixes. So no matter what kind of volunteer holiday you choose, you can rest assured that you’ll make a real impact.
We’ve also adopted a hassle-free approach to volunteer trips, to take the stress of planning off your shoulders. All you need to do is relax and enjoy your project, while we do the work!

Volunteer Holidays with Animals
If you want a wildlife conservation holiday, our Conservation Projects are for you. Invoke your inner Charles Darwin and work with sea lions and giant tortoises in the Galapagos Islands. Monitor wild elephant populations or help protect endangered giraffes in the heart of Africa. Or, help rehabilitate spider monkeys in the middle of the Amazon Rainforest in Peru. There is so much to choose from!
Is your heart tugging you away from land toward the ocean? We also have marine conservation holidays, where you can protect coral reefs in Belize and Thailand or research sharks in Fiji.
Our animal volunteer holidays for suitable for everyone, including families. For a curated list of projects that are the best fit for family conservation holidays, take a look at our page about family volunteering abroad.
Will I really make a difference on a humanitarian holiday?
Taking a humanitarian holiday is a great way to do something exciting and channel your energy into positive change while on vacation. Instead of relaxing at a beach resort, for example, you can travel to a black sand beach in Mexico and save endangered sea turtles.
Worried about how much of a difference you can really make on your working holiday abroad? This is what we do to make sure you make an impact:
- We teach you what you need to know to do the work before you start
- You have support from professional staff whenever you need it
- We have guidelines and codes of conduct in place to guide your work
You can also read our blogs about volunteering with no previous experience, and how we run short-term placements so they still help people in the long-term.
Volunteering Holidays Abroad for Free
We often get asked if we offer volunteering holidays abroad for free. The short answer is no. There are several reasons why we ask all our participants to pay a fee for volunteering abroad. Read more about why our volunteer projects have a programme fee.
