Volunteer in Peru with Projects Abroad and contribute to long-term goals on one of our many volunteer opportunities. In Peru, you can help us address specific needs to support local communities.
You can support early childhood development at understaffed childcare centres or help local teachers improve their English. Or, help us uncover the past on our Incan and Wari Archaeology Project. You can also discover your wild side by helping with conservation efforts in the heart of the amazing Amazon Rainforest.
Most of our projects are based in Cusco, and we have a Conservation Project in the jungle. Our full-time staff in Peru are there to support you 24/7 if you need it, wherever you’re based.
There is so much to see and do in Peru in your free time, like visiting Machu Picchu and soaking in hot springs. Make the most of your trip and do as much as possible!

All of our Peru volunteer opportunities, except for Conservation, are based in Cusco. Our Conservation Project is further away, near the town of Puerto Maldonado in the Amazon Rainforest.
Cusco
Cusco is one of the most fascinating cities in the world. Once, long ago, it was the capital of the ancient Incan Empire. Today, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site filled with archaeological remains and beautiful Spanish colonial architecture. It’s found in the Urubamba Valley of the Andes mountain range.
In Cusco, you can enjoy varieties of delicious Peruvian cuisine, like the national dish, ceviche, which is raw fish cured in citrus juices and spiced with chili peppers. During your free time, explore the city’s cobblestoned streets, or take a hike in the lush green mountainous surroundings. And no visit to Peru is complete without visiting the incredible Machu Picchu.
Puerto Maldonado
Our Rainforest Conservation Project is located in the heart of the Amazon Rainforest, at the Taricaya Ecological Reserve. The closest town is Puerto Maldonado, and Taricaya is a one-hour boat trip down the Madre de Dios River from here.
At Taricaya, you’ll be surrounded by vast jungles filled with wildlife. Picture yourself waking up every morning to the sounds of the rainforest, listening to monkeys jumping from tree to tree. You’ll also be able to see the beauty of the rainforest from the highest canopy walkway in South America.
