As a Projects Abroad volunteer on the Teaching in Thailand Grown-up Special, you will make an impact in a local community by helping students develop their English skills. Thailand is a popular country amongst travellers and speaking a global language like English is a crucial skill which can open doors to better employment opportunities in the Thai tourism industry. In disadvantaged and more rural areas in Thailand, English skills are limited, as many schools are affected by a lack of resources and a shortage of English teachers.

As a Teaching volunteer, you will be based on the west coast of southern Thailand in the town of Krabi. You will lead your own classes at a secondary school or technical college, working to raise students’ confidence and improve their English skills. Building on students’ skills by planning and incorporating creative and interactive activities like conversation role play is a great way to get them involved in the classroom. A practical technique like this can help build self-confidence and leaves students with a positive attitude towards learning English.

During your stay, you will live in volunteer bungalows. To ensure you get the most out of your experience, a number of activities have been planned during your free time. Over the weekend, you will go on a trip to Koh Klang Island, where you enjoy a boat tour and participate in cultural activities such as Batik painting. You will also have the opportunity to visit temples and waterfalls and learn how to cook a traditional Thai dish.

This placement is fully researched, safety audited and risk assessed in accordance with the British Standard BS8848 for the Adventure Travel Sector.
