What you can expect
This immersive programme combines medical learning with cultural discovery and personal development. You’ll start in Arusha, nestled beneath Mount Kilimanjaro, where your induction will introduce you to local customs, language, and healthcare structure.
Once you’ve settled in, begin shadowing medical professionals in hospitals and clinics, observing a wide range of treatments and procedures. You’ll take part in community outreach programmes, assisting in basic health checks and distributing medication to underserved populations. Hands-on workshops will deepen your understanding of tropical diseases, surgery, and public health challenges in Tanzania.
Beyond your placements, enjoy a rich cultural itinerary - from Swahili lessons and cooking classes to visits to Maasai markets and local drumming and dance sessions. The highlight of the trip is a weekend safari through Tarangire National Park, where you’ll witness some of Africa’s Big Five. You’ll also enjoy an exciting hike to Materuni Waterfalls, at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro, and take a visit to a local coffee plantation.
Why choose Tanzania for your Medicine & Healthcare programme?
Tanzania offers an unparalleled opportunity to experience healthcare in a vibrant and diverse setting. The country faces both urban and rural health challenges, giving you the chance to observe a variety of medical conditions and approaches to care. By working alongside local professionals, you’ll gain meaningful insight into the realities of global health delivery and contribute to community well-being.
Throughout your placement, you'll be supported by our dedicated Projects Abroad medical doctor. They will provide expert on-site guidance and mentorship to your group, guiding the clinical learning and acting as a bridge between you and the local medical staff.
Choosing Tanzania allows you to step into a world of new experiences, giving you the opportunity to experience healthcare settings in an environment vastly different from home.
