Volunteering in Nepal

Taking part in our Disaster Relief project in Nepal is a great opportunity for volunteers to make a meaningful contribution to communities affected by the devastating earthquakes in April 2015.

The Disaster Relief placement allows our volunteers to help with valuable relief work in Kathmandu. Over 24, 000 classrooms have been destroyed or damaged by the earthquake and there is a real need to set up alternative learning spaces for children.

While focusing on building temporary schools, these short-term volunteers will work under the supervision of a civil engineer and a skilled mason. Although the mason cannot speak English, a local staff member will serve as a translator on the building site. Volunteers should be physically fit and must be prepared to mix cement, paint and dig trenches.

Volunteers joining this placement will stay in a hotel. Evenings are set aside for cultural or leisure activities organised by our local staff. On the weekend, volunteers can enjoy a planned trip to Chitwan National Park, a World Heritage Site and the first national park in Nepal.

This placement is fully researched, safety audited and risk assessed in accordance with the British Standard BS8848 for the Adventure Travel Sector.
