There is a need for volunteers with physiotherapy skills in Nepal. Projects Abroad has partnered with a number of rehabilitation clinics where you can volunteer. You may also be placed at hospitals or disabled centres.
As a physiotherapy volunteer you will shadow a local member of staff, and depending on your abilities and interests you may be able to assist later in your placement. You will learn how a busy physiotherapy department works and you will gain knowledge by observing and asking questions. If you are a trained physiotherapist, you will find yourself busy and in demand.
Volunteering Abroad on a Physiotherapy Placement
We have a number of placements available in Nepal. You might work in one of our placements which are rehabilitation centres for disabled children or adults who have been involved in accidents. This placement offers services to Nepali children and adults to improve their standard of living and provide support and care. Some of our volunteers also work at large hospitals.
Volunteers have often come across neglected orthopaedic conditions such as TB, polio, post-burn contractures and cerebral palsy. You might work with inpatients and with outpatients who attend a couple of times in the week, sometimes travelling many hours for a visit to the centre.
In addition to your regular placement, you may be able to take part in various outreach programmes, including visits to schools or a health camp.
This programme is one where you can really improve your CV - gaining experience difficult to get in the west - and helping out these short-staffed institutions.
If you are a fully qualified physiotherapist, we can tailor you a placement where your skills will be put to good use. Please Contact Us for more information.
When you volunteer in Nepal you will live in a hostel or with one of our host families who are sometimes also members of staff where you will work. You have the chance to spend your free time with the Projects Abroad volunteer community experiencing the delights of the town or city where you are based.
You can read more detailed information about the aims of the project in our Nepal Medicine & Healthcare Management Plan.
This placement is fully researched, safety audited and risk assessed in accordance with the British Standard BS8848 for the Adventure Travel Sector.
