Projects Abroad volunteers on the Conservation & Community placement in the Galapagos, Ecuador

Combine your love of working with children and your passion for the great outdoors with our Conservation & Community in Ecuador Grown-up Special. During your stay on the beautiful Galapagos Islands you will split your time between a Community placement and Conservation project.

The Galapagos Islands are one of the most species-rich regions on earth, and due to their isolation they are home to many unique species of flora and fauna. You will work closely with the Galapagos National Park during your conservation work, assisting on various ongoing projects.

The aim is to aid in the removal of alien species, reforest areas with indigenous plants, monitor the populations of unique fauna, and assist with beach clean-ups. Prevention is also key to conserving the environment so you may help prepare awareness workshops to educate the local community on environmental issues.

Your main role during the Community placement in Ecuador will be to assist local teachers and provide the children with the extra care they need. Part of your responsibilities will be to run creative activities that stimulate and educate, as well as improve the children’s English skills.

You will have plenty of free time to spend with the other volunteers. To ensure you make the most of your stay, a few exciting activities have been planned for you, including a trip to one or two of the neighbouring islands and a tour of the various sites in the Galapagos. Living on the island also provides a great opportunity to speak Spanish with local people if you're interested in improving or picking up some language skills.

This placement is fully researched, safety audited and risk assessed in accordance with the British Standard BS8848 for the Adventure Travel Sector.
