Medicine Elective Placements Overseas with Projects Abroad
Projects Abroad organises Medicine Elective placements in various destinations in the developing world. These are specifically for undergraduates studying for a degree in Medicine. They are tailored to meet your requirements and you can choose to take a general placement or focus on one or more specialist areas such as Oncology or Paediatrics.
If you are not an elective student or would rather take part in our standard Medicine projects, please see our Medicine Projects page. You can also see our full range of Electives for students of other healthcare-related subjects on our Medical Electives page.
Projects Abroad has over 20 years practice in collaborating with medical professionals. We have experienced staff who are able to liaise with your university to ensure that your placement meets your requirements. We arrange your accommodation, meals and insurance and our in-country staff are there to support you and make sure your time overseas is a success.
Taking your Elective Placement in Medicine with Projects Abroad
Once you have chosen your preferred destination and dates, and applied to join us, you will be placed in a local hospital or clinic. Here you will work from Monday to Friday alongside local staff. You will be assigned a qualified supervisor who is there to provide support and guidance throughout your placement.
Many of our elective students also have the opportunity to take part in extra activities such as attending workshops, outreach programmes and seminars with other medical students. This depends on the country and placement you choose.
It’s important to remember that facilities in many of our destinations are more basic than you may be used to. Staff often work with limited resources and have to treat patients in advanced stages of injury and illness.
You can download our specialisms chart to see which specialisms are available in each of our destinations. Please note that we can’t always guarantee that your preferred specialism will be available on your chosen dates. For more information or to check availability please call us on 01903 708300.
Our in-country staff will work with you to make sure your placement best suits the medical route you have chosen. You may wish to rotate through departments or focus on one particular specialism.
Deadlines for Application
Please be aware that most universities have deadlines by which time your Elective application paperwork must be completed. If your university needs information on the exact hospital or clinic in which you will be placed, or requires forms to be signed by your project supervisor, we strongly advise completing our application form at least one month before this deadline. We can only provide this detailed information once you have applied and been accepted onto an Elective placement with us.
If you have any questions please call us on 01903 708 300.
