Your Gap Year in South America - mixing travel with volunteering
The last two decades has seen a massive boom in the “gap-year”, as increasing numbers of students decide they want to take a year out during further education. At the same time – in a trend that surprised many people - Gap years have been supported by both universities and employers, who see them as constructive ways for students to spend their time, thanks largely to the move students have made towards spending at least a part of their year donating their time to worthwhile programmes, such as those run by international volunteering organisations such as Projects Abroad. So when you are planning your gap year in South America, why not consider combining it with one of our placements in Argentina, Bolivia, Ecuador or Peru?
Gap year destinations in South America, North America & The Caribbean
We operate in all 4 of these South American locations, as well as in Costa Rica, Mexico and Jamaica in North America and the Caribbean. In each we offer something different. In every single one we have Teaching projects - where our volunteers teach conversational English in schools – and Care projects – where volunteers work in orphanages or care homes. But we also offer many other placements - including those in Medicine & Healthcare, Conservation & Environment, Journalism Sports, Law, and Business – as well as incredible one-off experiences – such as our Inca Project in Peru, our Equine Therapy Project in Argentina, our Arts & Crafts Project in Mexico or our Disaster Management Project in Jamaica.
Projects Abroad – taking the hassle out of your gap-year
Students looking to spend a part of their gap-year in the Americas on a volunteering placement come to Projects Abroad because we are the most successful company in our field, with over 9,000 people volunteering with us every year. We offer the greatest selection of projects and a huge degree of flexibility – as well as choosing exactly what project you want to do and where, you also get to choose the project length and start date. So our placements are perfect for fitting into your busy gap-year schedule.
Once you have applied to volunteer with us, we take on as much of the hassle of organising your trip as we possibly can; our prices include your accommodation, meals and insurance, so you do not have to think about these, and we can even organise your flights for you, if you wish, as long as providing help and guidance on visas, kit-lists, gap-year safety, etc.
Your arrival in your destination country will be just as easy; we will meet you at the airport or train/bus station, take you to meet your host family, and give you a full orientation of your local area and placement.
