The Associate Charity Link
Tore's Foundation was established in memorial of Tore Eikeland who was murdered in Utoya in 2011 along with 79 other students. Tore was active in a lot of social and political causes both in Norway and abroad. Projects Abroad founder, Peter Slowe, had the opportunity to meet with Tore several times and was taken with his outspokenness and passion for political freedom, human rights, and social justice.
The charity started as a scholarship program for students from Tore’s hometown of Osteroy, Norway to join our Projects Abroad programs in Africa. So far, 5 volunteers have participated in our scholarship program in Tanzania, South Africa, and Kenya. The charity has now expanded and focused on working in community development initiatives in rural Africa.
The aims of the charity are to make a sustainable impact in rural communities in line with Tore’s values. Our first Tore Village was established in Akokoa, Ghana in collaboration with Projects Abroad in 2014. The Tore Village model focuses on alleviating poverty through a holistic approach to ensure that there is a sustainable impact while focusing our resources in one community at a time. With the support of Projects Abroad and our local partners on the ground, it is the aim of Tore's Foundation to create a lasting impact through our Tore Village model.
