Projects Abroad Care volunteers organize fun groups games and activities for children on an outreach project in Togo

Our Care & Community High School Special with French is an excellent option for those aged 15-18 who enjoy interacting with children but would also like to take part in some hands-on work and improve their French skills.

Your days will be split between the different placements. Care work will take place at a local care centre, where you will get involved arranging educational activities, playing games, and helping with general day-to-day tasks.

The community aspect includes light renovation work at local care centres, such as painting walls or murals, setting up a school library and creating a vegetable garden.

Volunteers will also receive several hours of interactive French tuition during the week. Whether you want to master the basics or improve on the French you already know, the teaching will be adjusted to your level.

Since you will be living with a host family, you’ll easily be able to put your knowledge of French into practice on a daily basis. Staying with a host family is also a wonderful way to familiarise yourself with the local culture.

Volunteers will have the chance to take part in social events and cultural activities organised by Projects Abroad – these may include trips to Togoville and other local attractions, a pizza and movie evening, and dining at a local restaurant.

On the weekend, volunteers will take a trip to Kpalimé, a mountain village surrounded by cocoa plantations. This will give you an opportunity to hike and explore the scenery, enjoy a picnic and swim at Womé waterfall, and discover the local arts and crafts markets.

This placement is fully researched, safety audited and risk assessed in accordance with the British Standard BS8848 for the Adventure Travel Sector.

Every year, thousands of High School Special volunteers actively make a difference around the world. During their time abroad, they contribute towards achieving long-term goals and make a long-lasting positive impact on the communities where they work. If you want to know more about their achievements, read our 2016 High School Specials Impact Report.
