Projects Abroad gets top honours at Global Youth Travel Awards
Projects Abroad has been presented with the coveted Extraordinary Experience Award at this year’s Global Youth Travel Awards.
The award is given in recognition of an extraordinary travel experience. In the case of Projects Abroad, the experience was that of the Dunshaughlin school group from Ireland, who spent two weeks volunteering on Care & Community projects in Ghana. During their trip, they assisted with caring for children at an orphanage, as well as working at a community farm (you can see more about their trip in this video).
Anna McCarthy, Director of Projects Abroad Ireland tell us “nominees are judged on their inspiration, originality and engagement with the culture they visit, so for us at Projects Abroad, it’s confirmation of the outstanding work done by the students of Dunshaughlin as well as the work being carried out across our 29 destinations. The award serves to showcase our excellent service when it comes to facilitating meaningful travel experiences for young people. We’re thrilled to be honoured in this way”.
The awards ceremony is the culmination of a four day conference hosted by World Youth Student and Educational Travel Confederation (WYSE), an international travel organisation endorsed by UNESCO, with over 500 members from around the world. The awards celebrate outstanding performers who work in the youth education and travel industry.
“The calibre of nominations this year, across all 12 award categories, has been truly outstanding. As youth travel blossoms into the tourism industry’s fastest growing segment, it’s important to acknowledge the wealth of talent and innovation from the companies as well as individuals driving this growth,” says David Chapman, Director General of WYSE.
