Join the Projects Abroad football team in Peru
Volunteers on Teaching, Care & Community or Spanish placements in the Peruvian Sacred Valley have the chance to join the Projects Abroad football team during their stay.
Chadi Moussa, a recent volunteer in Peru on a Spanish placement tells us about his involvement:
'Without a doubt, for me, one of the highlights of my whole 'Peru experience' was being part of the Projects Abroad football team. Aside from being entered into a regional league in Cusco's Sacred Valley and playing amongst some breath-taking scenery, the team also provided an excellent opportunity to integrate with other volunteers and the locals. Although there was certainly a competitive edge to the football, the inclusion of staff within the team, the presence of host-families and supportive volunteers, ensured that the games provided a fantastic social event, often ending in a few celebratory drinks. Apart from being extremely enjoyable, the season proved to be quite successful. The team of 2005 certainly made a name for itself, especially in the local town and with the local radio station, whose presence at every game became a good PR exercise. All-in-all a very memorable time, adding to what was a wonderful experience.'
Assistant Manager, Joanna King added:
'It was all round good fun! It was not only an opportunity for volunteers to socially interact in another environment other than that of the classroom or work place, but also a chance to show our willingness as part of an organisation to interact with the locals. Football is a way of crossing huge cultural divides and can be a really good connection point for people of all nationalities within Projects Abroad or not.'
