You can volunteer on a School Sports project in Romania without any previous coaching experience, although anyone with experience will also be very welcome.
Volunteers can join us no matter what stage of life they are at - during a gap year from education or a career break or even as an alternative holiday. All we ask is that you have an interest in sport and a will to help others develop their own sporting ability.
As a volunteer you will be working throughout the Romanian school term teaching sports in a primary school in Codlea, which is about 30 minutes’ drive from Brasov. Under the guidance of a local teacher, you will be working with children between the ages of 6 – 14 years old, for four hours each day.
From football to volleyball and athletics, you can teach a variety of sports at the local school; however the school has limited sporting equipment so you are expected to use your creativity to adapt to the sports accordingly.
Your Role Volunteering on a School Sports Project in Romania
While volunteering abroad you could dedicate your time to the sport you love or help with a range of lessons. Just let us know where your interests lie once you have applied and we will match you to a suitable placement.
Helping to involve children and teenagers in sports in Romania means that they become fitter and healthier, as well as giving them a sense of belonging to a team with a shared passion and goal. This in turn has positive benefits for the wider society by engaging many of the youth in sports outside of school, which can keep them away from less wholesome activities, and give them vital structure and purpose.
You can join the School Sports project in Romania for two or three weeks if you don't have time to join us for four weeks or more. This project has been selected by our local colleagues as being suitable for short term volunteering for both the host community and the volunteer. Although you will gain a valuable cultural insight and work intensely within the local community, please be aware that you may not be able to make the same impact as someone volunteering for a longer period.
This placement is fully researched, safety audited and risk assessed in accordance with the British Standard BS8848 for the Adventure Travel Sector.
