A group of Projects Abroad Medicine volunteers at a Medical outreach camp in rural Colombo

Based in Colombo, Sri Lanka’s largest city, the Short-term Special Dentistry project is an exciting opportunity for volunteers to experience and understand the medical systems in a developing country.

Volunteers will be under the supervision of a Projects Abroad Coordinator; and will spend time in the dentistry departments of a general hospital.

During your two or three weeks you will also attend an interesting workshop on medical practices in Sri Lanka, and participate in outreach activities during a two-day medical camp where you will visit a local community and an orphanage.

Projects Abroad will arrange a weekend trip to Kandy, Sri Lanka’s cultural capital, which is an UNESCO World Heritage site.

This placement is fully researched, safety audited and risk assessed in accordance with the British Standard BS8848 for the Adventure Travel Sector.

Every year, thousands of Short-term Special volunteers actively make a difference around the world. During their time abroad, they contribute towards achieving long-term goals and make a long-lasting positive impact on the communities where they work. If you want to know more about their achievements, read our 2016 Short-term Specials Impact Report.
