Building in the Philippines
Short-term Projects for 16-19 Year Olds
- PLACEMENT LOCATION: San Remigio and Bogo City, Cebu
- TYPES OF PLACEMENT: Schools and houses
- ACCOMMODATION: Host Families
- AGE REQUIREMENTS: 16-19 years old
Volunteering on the Building Project in the Philippines is a great way to impact the lives of those who were deeply affected by Typhoon Haiyan, which devastated parts of Cebu in 2013. You will help with the renovation and building of houses and schools, providing an improved living and learning environment for local communities.
You will work alongside a local builder, who will teach you all the necessary building and construction techniques, which are ideal for sites with limited facilities. Projects Abroad works in partnership with three local organisations mainly around San Remegio, but also throughout Bogo City.
Daily activities include digging foundations, mixing and pouring cement, building a roof or putting the finishing coat of paint on the completed building. You will also spend time with the local people and visit schools where. Here you’ll help paint and clean the premises, and read stories to the children and play educational games.
During your time in the Philippines, you will stay with a local host family. They will welcome you into their home, where you will learn about Filipino culture first hand. At the weekend you will go on a trip with other volunteers and our local staff to Capitancillo Island, where you may snorkel. You’ll also enjoy cultural evenings in Bogo City.
This placement is fully researched, safety audited and risk assessed in accordance with the British Standard BS8848 for the Adventure Travel Sector.
