Classical & Medieval Archaeology in Romania
Short-term Projects for 16-19 Year Olds
- Placement location: Various locations including Deva, Sarmizegetusa Cluj and Alba Museums
- Types of placement: Archaeology
- Accommodation: Host Families or Shared Volunteer House
- Age Requirements: 16-19 years old
By taking part on our Classical & Medieval Archaeology project in Romania you will gain hands-on experience of archaeology and learn many practical skills relevant within this field. You'll work at one of Romania's many excavation and restoration sites.
Working on these ancient sites is a great way to learn about civilisations that have long since disappeared. Through clues, investigations and practical research you can attempt to reconstruct many aspects of their way of life. The range of work is diverse! The majority of your time will be spent on site excavation, however you'll also be involved in the analysis of findings, attending workshops and conducting presentations.
Your accommodation will most likely be with a host family, but for more remote sites you may stay in a shared volunteer house. This will be confirmed closer to the time once the site is finalised.
Your weekend will be spent exploring a nearby village amongst the beautiful mountains, in the heart of rural Transylvania.
This placement is fully researched, safety audited and risk assessed in accordance with the British Standard BS8848 for the Adventure Travel Sector.
Every year, thousands of Short-term Special volunteers actively make a difference around the world. During their time abroad, they contribute towards achieving long-term goals and make a long-lasting positive impact on the communities where they work.
