Projects Abroad Easter Building volunteers clear a space for a home in Jamaica

Easter marks the beginning of Jamaica’s rainy season and for those with weak or damaged houses, this can be a challenging time. Our Building Project in Jamaica aims to address immediate and long-term housing needs in disadvantaged communities, while also providing people with strong, stable homes. By volunteering on our Easter Building project, you’ll contribute to this ongoing work and help us fulfil these goals. This project follows an itinerary specifically designed with short-term volunteering in mind, so you can be sure that the work you do in one week will have a tangible impact.

You will work with a group of volunteers during your week abroad. Experienced local builders and the Projects Abroad Building Manager will guide your daily activities and you’ll work for six hours each day. Your tasks may include the following activities:

  • Concrete work (block laying and wall dressing)
  • Carpentry work
  • Roofing
  • Flooring/tiling
  • Plumbing
  • Painting

All Easter Building volunteers will live with local host families for the duration of their trip. This is a wonderful way to experience Jamaican hospitality, engage in cultural exchange and make friendships that will last a lifetime.

During your volunteer trip to Jamaica, you will also experience Jamaican culture in your free time. Our staff will teach you some basic Patois (the local language), which you can use to communicate with the local people and your host family. Planned social activities will give you the perfect opportunity to practice your reggae dance skills, or pay tribute to Bob Marley during karaoke nights. A day trip will also be organized for you to YS Falls and Blue Fields beach.

This placement is fully researched, safety audited and risk assessed in accordance with the British Standard BS8848 for the Adventure Travel Sector.
