Our Christmas Projects are structured trips which run over the Christmas holiday period. They are open to volunteers of all ages and you will work on the projects as a group with other volunteers from around the world.
The Medicine in Ghana programme is an exciting and popular project, based in the city of Cape Coast. This project will allow you to experience different approaches to medicine and treatments. You will have the opportunity to learn about medicine in a developing country and improve your knowledge of medicine and healthcare.
The project combines outreach work in local communities, a leprosy camp and care centres with one day per week spent observing at a local clinic. During the outreach work you will be involved in more hands-on work, like dressing wounds, carrying out health checks, giving malaria tests and giving presentations on common health issues.
While volunteering in Ghana you will live with one of our local host families. You will be able to immerse yourself in the day-to-day lives of the family you're living with.
The two weeks will be structured with a daily timetable and with evening and weekend activities arranged. You will spend Christmas with other volunteers and Projects Abroad staff and also celebrate the coming of the New Year together. We'll take you to visit one of Ghana's stunning palm fringed beaches and the exciting Kotokuraba market.
This placement is fully researched, safety audited and risk assessed in accordance with the British Standard BS8848 for the Adventure Travel Sector.
