Building volunteers in Ghana

Travel to Ghana and join our Building & Community Middle School Special, helping and learning while under the supervision of Projects Abroad staff. Use this time to build friendships with young people from around the world, learn about the culture and traditions that shape Ghana, and get an introduction to volunteer work and the impact it can have on communities in need.

Joining a Middle School Special abroad is a chance to learn by meeting people who have different lives and cultures to your own. We all have things in common and we have things to learn from each other. Learning about community service is an important part of your trip. Help at day care centres, do light renovation work, play sports with children, and talk about topics like hygiene and healthy eating.

Our experienced local staff will guide your daily activities and if you have any questions, a Projects Abroad staff member will be there to give you advice. Your activities include:

  • Renovation work in the Akokoa community
  • Talk about personal hygiene
  • Talk about the importance of healthy eating
  • Playing games and doing educational activities
  • Participating in a sports day

All students on a Middle School Special in Ghana live with a local host family. Each day, you’ll eat meals with the other volunteers from around the world, exchange stories, and learn more about each other. This time spent with each other allows for cultural exchange and a chance to learn a few phrases from around the world!

A trip to Ghana would not be complete without social and weekend activities for you to enjoy. Learn how music and dance fit into Ghana’s traditions by taking part in a dance lesson at your host family or practice cooking a traditional meal on a different evening. Your weekend trip will take you to Cape Coast to explore a castle, relax at a beach, and enjoy stunning views from a Canopy Walk in Kakum Forest.
