Volunteers help clean and plant at the nursery

If you're interested in combining working with children, joining a conservation project and living on a breathtaking island, then look no further than this trip! The Galapagos Islands have spectacular scenery and are renowned as being one of the most species rich places on earth. This creates a perfect destination for volunteers who want to travel and experience the wildlife first hand.

Volunteers on this High School Special programme split their time between a community care project and work on the conservation project.

On the conservation part of the project you will have the unique opportunity to get involved with a wide range of on-going projects at the Galapagos National Park which may include habitat restoration work, monitoring sea lions, marine iguana and sea bird population surveys, beach clean-ups and environmental awareness workshops in the local community.

You will spend your other week working at one of our care projects that run a summer camp for children in the town of Puerto Baquerizo Moreno. Education and learning English is vital for the children on the island and therefore you will be involved in running creative educational activities at the care centres.

Living on the Galapagos Islands also provides a great opportunity to speak Spanish with local people if you're interested in improving or picking up some language skills.

A weekend trip to one or two of the neighbouring islands is included for all High School Special volunteers. Experience all the beauty this magnificent island has to offer while helping out on a volunteer project.

On arrival, volunteers will be split into groups and therefore the order of your volunteer programme is subject to change.

This placement is fully researched, safety audited and risk assessed in accordance with the British Standard BS8848 for the Adventure Travel Sector.

Every year, thousands of High School Special volunteers actively make a difference around the world. During their time abroad, they contribute towards achieving long-term goals and make a long-lasting positive impact on the communities where they work. If you want to know more about their achievements, read our 2017 High School Specials Impact Report.

On Wednesday 21st February, Projects Abroad’s Rebecca Walton will be giving an online presentation about our High School Special Projects. You can watch Rebecca's presentation and ask questions from the comfort of your own home. Register for this webinar.
