Care & Community in Samoa
High School Specials for 15-18 Year Olds
- Placement location: Apia and various villages in Upolu Islando
- Types of placement: Assisting with school activities and ongoing community projects
- Accommodation: Host Families
- Age Requirements: 15-18 years old
Immerse yourself in traditional Samoan village life by joining our Care & Community High School Special. Become a part of the community by helping raise and educate local children while working on ongoing community projects that provide long-term benefits for everyone in the area.
You’ll give local teachers at kindergartens, schools and care centres a helping hand by looking after and caring for the children. You’ll also have the opportunity to put any skills or interests you have to use. Whether it’s arts and crafts or teaching games and songs to the children, your suggestions and contribution will be welcome.
Your involvement in the community doesn’t end there. You’ll live with a local host family, and be involved in all aspects of village life, from meetings with the chief to celebrating important events. You’ll also be involved in ongoing projects, from maintaining community buildings to helping with local sustainability initiatives to joining a local drama group. On weekends you’ll tour the island and the beautiful coastline for which Samoa is famous.
This placement is fully researched, safety audited and risk assessed in accordance with the British Standard BS8848 for the Adventure Travel Sector.
Every year, thousands of High School Special volunteers actively make a difference around the world. During their time abroad, they contribute towards achieving long-term goals and make a long-lasting positive impact on the communities where they work. If you want to know more about their achievements, read our 2017 High School Specials Impact Report.
On Wednesday 21st February, Projects Abroad’s Rebecca Walton will be giving an online presentation about our High School Special Projects. You can watch Rebecca's presentation and ask questions from the comfort of your own home. Register for this webinar.
