Care volunteer painting with the local children

Our Care & Community placement in Madagascar is a wonderful opportunity to discover the unique way of life on this island, and work alongside like-minded volunteers to make a positive impact in a local community.

This project takes place during the Madagascan school holidays, and as such you will help to run a summer camp for the local children. This will involve organising fun and educational activities, including arts & crafts sessions, games and sports days.

You will also take part in community renovation work, which may include painting walls of local buildings and educational murals at schools, setting up a playground or creating a vegetable garden.

During your stay, you will live with a local host family. This is a great way to immerse yourself in the local culture, and learn more about your host country. Volunteers will get to take part in different social and cultural events in their time off, organised by Projects Abroad. These may include games night, a visit to the national park, picnics and dance lessons.

We also arrange an exciting weekend trip to Lake Rasoabe, where you will get to enjoy boat rides and the beautiful beaches.

This placement is fully researched, safety audited and risk assessed in accordance with the British Standard BS8848 for the Adventure Travel Sector.

Every year, thousands of High School Special volunteers actively make a difference around the world. During their time abroad, they contribute towards achieving long-term goals and make a long-lasting positive impact on the communities where they work. If you want to know more about their achievements, read our 2017 High School Specials Impact Report.

On Wednesday 21st February, Projects Abroad’s Rebecca Walton will be giving an online presentation about our High School Special Projects. You can watch Rebecca's presentation and ask questions from the comfort of your own home. Register for this webinar.
