Based in Cape Town, the Care & Community Christmas project gives you the opportunity to work with children from disadvantaged communities during your winter holidays. Volunteers will help to run a summer holiday programme for underprivileged children from the townships.
The program is based a suburb very close to the beach, so most activities will be beach-based. Here, you will teach and play sports such as football and touch rugby, and organise creative arts and crafts activities like making Christmas cards. In addition, volunteers will help with educational presentations and workshops that cover a range of useful topics for the children.
All volunteers will also participate in some additional activities such as preparing lunch for the children, lending a hand at other organisations in need, and helping out with other special activities such as picnics or parties.
Volunteers on this project in South Africa will live with a local host family, which allows you to become fully immersed in the South African culture and enjoy some delicious home-cooked cuisine!
You will also have time to relax and enjoy the stunning scenery that Cape Town and the surrounding area has to offer; whether you view the city from the top of Table Mountain, visit the penguins at Boulders Beach or explore some of the legendary Garden Route, these two weeks will be one of the best fortnights of your life!
If you choose the four week volunteer option, you will be able to spend more time with the children at the summer holiday programme. Those joining us for longer will also get to enjoy extra visits and activities arranged during the weekends.
This placement is fully researched, safety audited and risk assessed in accordance with the British Standard BS8848 for the Adventure Travel Sector.
