Incan & Wari Archaeology in Peru
High School Specials for 16-19 Year Olds

Do you want to find out more about the amazing history of the Incan and Wari civilisations? Volunteers will be based in Cusco and spend the bulk of their time at our project site in Pikillaqta National Park. You will work outdoors, surrounded by stunning landscapes, and help with our archaeological activities in the area.
Your trip will begin in Cusco with an introduction to the grandeur of the Inca Empire and the fascinating lifestyle and traditions which are continued by the locals. You will then be taken to the Pikillaqta National Park, and work alongside our local archaeological team, helping them explore the area for "new" sites; mapping, excavating, cleaning and maintaining current sites; and classifying artefacts.
In addition to working at sites in Pikillaqta Archaeological Park, volunteers will also assist with excavations and general maintenance at sites in the Sacsayhuaman Archaeological Park. The major focus at Sacsayhuaman is on the preservation and maintenance of national heritage sites that have been damaged by tourists. Sacsayhuaman is the second most important site of Incan ruins after Machu Picchu.
You will be taken to see many of the archaeological wonders of Peru including Ollantaytambo where the Inca fought their last battle with the Conquistadores and the magnificent Machu Picchu, a unique place and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. You will be able to visit the ruins and see the markets of traditional Peruvian towns. Volunteers will stay with a host family for the duration of their placement.
This placement is fully researched, safety audited and risk assessed in accordance with the British Standard BS8848 for the Adventure Travel Sector.
