Teaching in Asia
Teaching volunteers in Asia give underprivileged children valuable access to a native English-speaking teacher. By teaching in Asia, volunteers help students to advance further in their studies and find better paid jobs as adults, an increasing number of which require English-speaking skills.
Projects Abroad hosts Teaching projects in many different countries throughout Asia. Volunteers can teach English to children or adults, and there are also opportunities to teach other subjects such as French or IT for volunteers who are interested in those areas.
Teaching in Asia – What is it Like?
Anyone can teach if they are willing to become part of a local community and make a lasting impact on the lives of the people you encounter. You don’t need any previous experience or training to do a Teaching project. You will find that your students are eager to learn and will ask you questions about your home. Volunteers sometimes bring photos or trinkets from home as props for their classrooms, always with great success.
The amount of timetabled English lessons per week that you will teach varies depending on the country and even the individual schools. In some countries you will be expected to be at school during the entire working day, but you may just teach two or three classes. In other cases, you may just teach in the morning, for example. You will also need to take time to prepare your lessons and you may often be asked to mark students' work.
