Care & Community in Ecuador
High School Specials for 15-18 Year Olds
- Placement location: San Cristobal Island
- Types of placements: Kindergarten
- Accommodation: Host families
- Age Requirements: 15-18 years old
Situated 1000km from the Ecuadorian coast, the Galapagos Islands are well-known for its spectacular scenery and interesting wildlife. You have the opportunity to volunteer with Projects Abroad on our Care & Community High School Special project and spend two weeks living on the beautiful island of San Cristobal.
Education and learning English is vital for the children on the island and you will provide creative educational activities for them at one of the local kindergartens. You will assist the teachers and provide extra attention to individual children.
The project also has a community aspect, where you will work alongside other volunteers on physical improvements, such as painting one of the classrooms or helping with a beach clean-up initiative.
Living on the Galapagos Islands also provides a great opportunity to speak Spanish with local people if you're interested in improving or picking up some language skills. Your patient and loving host family will be the best Spanish teachers you’ve ever had!
A weekend trip to a neighbouring island is included for all High School Special volunteers. This is an ideal way to see a really remote corner of this world-famous eco-system, learn about a unique island culture, relax and have fun with other volunteers.
This placement is fully researched, safety audited and risk assessed in accordance with the British Standard BS8848 for the Adventure Travel Sector.
Every year, thousands of High School Special volunteers actively make a difference around the world. During their time abroad, they contribute towards achieving long-term goals and make a long-lasting positive impact on the communities where they work. If you want to know more about their achievements, read our 2017 High School Specials Impact Report.
On Wednesday 21st February, Projects Abroad’s Rebecca Walton will be giving an online presentation about our High School Special Projects. You can watch Rebecca's presentation and ask questions from the comfort of your own home. Register for this webinar.
