Is this trip to Thailand right for me?
Our Discovery Trips are ideal for anyone interested in adventure travel and immersive cultural experiences. You’ll spend a week travelling around Thailand where local guides will teach you all about their history, culture, and traditions. You’ll visit various sights and attractions while getting actively involved in local craft making.
This trip is great for travellers over 18 and only requires an average level of fitness due to the nature of a few of the sightseeing trips.
During your time abroad, you’ll stay in hotels and resorts near Ao Nang. You’ll have access to swimming pools, and share a room with someone from your group. We’ll make your trip more comfortable by arranging all internal travel by minibus, boats, or taxis.
Day 1 – Arrival in Krabi
The moment you feel the tropical air in Thailand, our staff will be by your side. They’ll collect you from the airport and drive you to the accommodation where you’ll stay with your group. Depending on what time you arrive, you can spend the day at the beach or relax by the pool to catch your breath from the long trip.
In the evening, you’ll sit down to a welcome dinner with your group. This is a great time to meet and get to know everyone. Before you eat, you’ll receive a basic culture course and orientation to the local area.
Day 2 – Kayaking and fishing village visit
Your morning will start with a journey to Ao-Luk. Here, you’ll kayak through the tranquil waters of the mangrove forests. While wading through the waters, you’ll learn about the importance of mangroves and the effect they have on the climate and environmental health.
After kayaking, you’ll visit a cave filled with ancient paintings dating back 3,000 years before taking a break at a waterfall in Than Bok Khorani National Park.
In the afternoon, you’ll learn about Thai traditions and Buddhism at Bang-Thong Temple. Here, you’ll get to admire the detailed carvings and paintings that decorate this modern structure. Buddhism is still a major part of life in Thailand and new temples are still being constructed.
From the temple, you’ll travel to a fishing village that has stunning panoramic views of the Andaman Ocean.
Day 3 – Little Amazon River Trek and floating village visit
Explore the mysterious, unspoilt rainforest before visiting Takuapa Old Town. This sleepy village is full of teahouses and a mix of Portuguese and Chinese influences.
Day 4 – Phi Phi snorkelling trip
You’ll wake up early to join a full-day tour of Seven Islands surrounding famous Phi Phi. You’ll stop at different tropical islands to rest by the beach and snorkel in the pristine waters of the marine park.
Day 5 – Tiger Temple and Emerald Pool
Take a trip to Tiger Temple by trekking up over 1,000 steps through the rainforest. At the top, you’ll see a huge golden Buddha statue surrounded by breathtaking views of Krabi and the surrounding tree-covered mountains. During your climb, you’ll encounter local monkeys swinging through the trees. Just keep an eye on your belongings and hold onto your hats. These cheeky monkeys are known for their curious and quick fingers.
Not up to the climb? There are multiple caves to explore and smaller shrines to visit at the bottom of the mountain.
After your trek, you can recharge by relaxing in hot, volcanic spring waters before cooling down in the crystal-clear waters of the Emerald Pool. It’s a tranquil location, nestled amongst the jungle trees, where you can rest and feel closer to nature.
Day 6 – Cooking class and local crafts
This is the day for getting more actively involved in cultural immersion. You’ll visit Koh Klang Village, famous for its carvings and batik painting. Locals will teach you traditional craft techniques and share stories from their lives. You’ll learn things like:
- How to make traditional Thai dye
- Different methods of making carvings and patterns
- How to prepare a local meal
After your trip to the village, you’ll take a gondola tour of the coastline to view the famous Twin Rocks that stand above Ao Nang. You’ll end the day with a tour of the local markets before a farewell dinner together.
Day 7 – Departure from Krabi
After all the farewells and goodbyes, our staff will accompany you to the airport. However, depending on what time your flight is, you may have some free time to explore or relax before leaving.
