Building & Spanish in Mexico
Short-term Projects for 16-19 Year Olds
- Placement location: Guadalajara
- Types of placement: Building/construction work and language lessons
- Accommodation: Host Families
- Age Requirements: 16-19 years old
This placement combines intensive Spanish lessons with the chance to experience a taste of Mexican culture and contribute to the local community. This is a great project for language students and anyone wanting to experience a cultural immersion.
Mornings will be spent doing some construction work in the local community. This may be anything from building a toilet block, to plastering and painting a classroom or community hall. You will also have the opportunity to spend time with the children in the community, doing games and fun activities with them..
In the afternoons volunteers will receive two hours of Spanish tuition. Classes are interactive and you will be given encouragement every step of the way. You can put your new knowledge into practice on a daily basis as you get to know Mexico and mix with local people. Whether you want to master the basics or improve on the Spanish you already know, the teaching will be adjusted to your level.
Depending on the exact location of the building work, you may live in shared volunteer accommodation or with a local host family.
At the weekend volunteers will have the chance to visit one of Mexico’s beautiful beaches to re-charge the batteries for the second week of work.
This placement is fully researched, safety audited and risk assessed in accordance with the British Standard BS8848 for the Adventure Travel Sector.
