Our Care & Community Project in Jamaica is based in Mandeville. Volunteers work in a group and spend the week working with children in need in local communities, schools and childcare facilities.
On this project, you will also have the unique opportunity to participate in Operation Krismus Smile. This is an annual event where Projects Abroad volunteers and staff reach out to local children and families in need and provide gifts and other treats during Christmas. Volunteers will help choose, wrap and distribute gifts, as well as plan and run gift-giving events and fun days. This is a highlight of the year for many local children and families, as well as volunteers and staff!
You’ll also live with a host family during your stay, and you’ll get to experience full immersion in the Jamaican way of life, at a very social time of year.
The week will be structured and a daily timetable, with evening activities planned to make sure you get the most out of the experience. You will spend Christmas with other volunteers and Projects Abroad staff, and have the opportunity to explore the natural and cultural beauty of Jamaica before and after your visit.
This placement is fully researched, safety audited and risk assessed in accordance with the British Standard BS8848 for the Adventure Travel Sector.
