Projects Abroad volunteers work with kindergartens and care centres for disabled children in Hanoi. We don't pretend that we can solve all the social problems affecting modern day Vietnam, but with the help of volunteers, we can make a difference to a large number of children.
Volunteer in Vietnam with Children
In whichever volunteer care project you find yourself, you need to be ready for a challenge. Many of the children will have had very difficult lives and may be desperate for attention. There are likely to be some who have health problems or who require special attention due to disabilities or those infected or affected by HIV/Aids. Your role is to help improve their lives in whatever way possible.
The care work is often quite varied; it may involve practical care activities like washing and dressing the children, or playing games, sports and helping older children with their homework. You may even want to take a group out on a trip. Projects Abroad will support you in any way that we can.
Helping with basic education is also important as many of the children arrive at the homes after being orphaned or abandoned and have received little or no previous formal education. Volunteers at these placements assist with interactive activities that enhance the growth and development of the children.
Projects Abroad also offers a care placement at a centre located two hours south west of Hanoi. This is home to over 80 previously homeless people – about half of them are aged from 1 month old to 14 years old. Your accommodation will also be at the centre, allowing you to form strong relationships with the children. Please let us know when you apply if you are interested in taking part in this placement.
This project is available for two weeks if you don't have time to join us for a month or more. This project has been selected by our local colleagues as being suitable for short term volunteering for both the local community and the volunteer. Although you will gain a valuable cultural insight and work intensely within the local community please be aware that you may not be able to make the same impact as someone volunteering for a longer period.
