Short-term Projects for 16-19 Year Olds
- Placement location: Fasito'o Tai village on Upolu Island
- Types of placements: Primary school and community projects
- Accommodation: Host families
- Age Requirements: 16-19 years old
If you have ever wanted to experience a different country and culture through the eyes of a local, now is your chance! Volunteer and live in a traditional Samoan village, situated right on the coast of Upolu Island during our Care & Community Village Project in Samoa. Get ready to eat, dance, speak and ultimately live like a local.
In the mornings you will contribute to the learning and development of the local children while teaching at the village primary school. You will also be able to get involved in a variety of activities later in the day that will benefit the community as a whole. These activities will be based on your skills and interests and can include anything from exercise, drama and English classes to workshops on healthy living, cooking, gardening and traditional Samoan dancing. Working with the people in the village will not only be incredibly rewarding but it will also make you feel like a part of the community, rather than just a tourist.
During your stay you will be living with a host family which will give you the opportunity to fully immerse yourself in the Samoan lifestyle. You will be cooking and eating their food, sharing stories and joining them, along with the other locals, as they attend church and various village meetings. Before long they will feel like your family. At the end of each day and over the weekend, you and the other volunteers will also get the chance to explore the beautiful sights and attractions in Samoa.
This placement is fully researched, safety audited and risk assessed in accordance with the British Standard BS8848 for the Adventure Travel Sector.
