For those considering a career in the field of International Development, volunteering with an NGO in Jaipur could give you valuable experience to set your CV apart from the pack.
Jaipur is rich in tradition and culture, and is also developing rapidly. It is also an increasingly popular destination for tourists. Unfortunately despite many areas becoming more prosperous, there remain many slums with people living well below the poverty line.
NGOs in Jaipur help these people through various development programmes. Volunteering on an International Development internship here is a great way to help some of the local people to improve their livelihoods. Volunteers work with a variety of NGOs situated in and around Jaipur.
Volunteering on an International Development Placement
The main aim of the International Development project is to identify micro-level income generation groups (IGG) in slums and villages. These groups are usually made up of people in poor communities who make products to generate income to secure their livelihoods. Projects Abroad link these income group members with a local NGO that provides advice and guidance in the form of skills training workshops in order for them to further grow their community.
Volunteers may have the opportunity to get involved in some of the following areas:
- General administration
- Marketing and communications
- Conducting and attending workshops
- Business development
All internships demand a high level of motivation and a willingness to participate in any task given to you, whether it is brainstorming the next campaign, or proof reading a project proposal. If you are open and willing to help where needed, you will gain a well-rounded view of how international development organisations work and the challenges they face on a daily basis.
Anyone with an interest in this field is welcome to join this project, but it is particularly suitable for students and recent graduates of business studies or development studies. Please let us know if you have any experience or a special interest in any particular area.
It is a professional placement, and volunteers are expected to be punctual, professional and hard-working. You will be required to work an average of 35 hours per week, usually Monday to Friday. When you arrive at work on your first day, you will be introduced to staff who will be able to advise and support you during your placement, and of course our Projects Abroad staff are always available to support you throughout your stay.
Always remember that the more questions you ask, and the more you show you are willing to learn, the more time your colleagues will spend with you. If you complete every task to the best of your ability, you are certain to go home having gained valuable practical experience for your CV, whilst also having supported a worthwhile cause.
This placement is fully researched, safety audited and risk assessed in accordance with the British Standard BS8848 for the Adventure Travel Sector.
