As a volunteer with Projects Abroad in Asia, you will have the opportunity to discover religions and cultures as diverse as the landscapes of this vibrant continent. Some regions have a strong Eastern identity, others have strong Western influences, and others have a combination of the both.
Our programmes are available in many regions and cover a variety of interests. Whether you want to volunteer in Asia during your gap year, career break or during your university course, you will find a programme and a region to suit your interests.
Projects Abroad arranges placements throughout much of Asia and our programmes are incredibly diverse in terms of the type of work that you can do. You can teach English in Sri Lanka or China, care for children in Vietnam or Bangladesh, Laos or Nepal, preserve the environment in Thailand or Cambodia and live and learn from a Nomadic family in Mongolia.
What is it like to volunteer in Asia?
While volunteering in Asia, you will also have free time, giving you the opportunity to travel and tour other regions. Whether you want to white-water raft in the foaming glacial rivers in Nepal, visit stunning Buddhist temples in Sri Lanka, or sample local dishes in Shanghai, we can guarantee you won’t be bored!
Asia is unique in that we have varied accommodation options. Most countries like Mongolia, Nepal, Thailand, Sri Lanka, and the Philippines have host family accommodations. You’ll find them incredibly welcoming and they will doubtless be eager to find out all about you and your life back home. A few of our destinations in Asia have dorm style accommodations such as, Cambodia, Vietnam, and China. This will give you the chance to really be a part of our extraordinary volunteer community.
PROJECTS AVAILABLE IN ASIA
BuildingBuilding volunteer placements involve some of the most important work needed in developing communities, including setting up basic infrastructure. Volunteering to building schools, libraries, and homes lays a foundation that supports locals even after your volunteer work abroad has ended. CareCare volunteers work in orphanages, care centres, kindergartens, and special needs clinics in Asia. You will help children get ready in the morning, play games, assist with homework and mealtimes, etc. These are very well-rounded volunteer placements that allow you to bring your own interests and passions in to share with the children. Conservation & EnvironmentConservation and Environment projects focus on preserving some of the most beautiful and vulnerable ecosystems around Asia. Whether you are volunteering in the Annapurna mountain range or on the coast, you will be working alongside our dedicated local staff to protect the area and raise awareness about the importance of conservation. Culture & CommunityCulture & Community projects in Asia allow volunteers to learn and help while being immersed in the lives and traditions countries in Asia. The typed of projects vary, but they focus on immersion into a vibrant new culture and ways to give back to their chosen host community. SportsSports volunteer programmes are popular with those who have a background in playing or coaching soccer, basketball, volleyball, tennis, water sports and more. Sports bring people together and help build strong communities, as well as contribute to the creation of healthy, happy individuals. TeachingTeaching volunteers work alongside local teachers in any of the destinations where we work. You do not need to have previous experience, just energy, enthusiasm, and patience. You can teach English to students or adults, and if you have the necessary skills you could also volunteer to teach French, IT, music, or sports.
