Projects Abroad’s volunteer nursing placements in Ghana offer you a valuable opportunity to learn about and experience various medical conditions you would not normally see in your home country. You will develop your nursing skills in a hospital environment which is very different from the one that you are probably used to. At times you will find the experience challenging but also hugely worthwhile.
Volunteer nurses in Ghana can choose to spend time in a variety of different departments within the hospitals, including A&E, paediatrics, maternity and surgery. When you first arrive at the hospital you will discuss your work schedule with your Projects Abroad coordinator and the placement supervisor, who is a member of the hospital staff.
Our voluntary Nursing programmes in Ghana are based in the bustling city hospital in Cape Coast.
Outreach Work in Ghana
Volunteer nurses in all regions also take part in regular medical outreach work. This may be visiting an orphanage or treating children in small villages. Volunteers wanting to specialise in the outreach work can join a full time Public Health project based in Dodowa, on the outskirts of Accra. Any volunteers interested in working with HIV and AIDS patients could join our HIV/AIDS control programme based in a hospital in Accra. This also includes community outreach work.
Ghana is one of our most popular destinations. The Projects Abroad volunteer community is large and there is much to see and do when you are not working at the hospital. During your stay you will live with a host family and experience the typical day-to-day life in Ghana.
