Community Building in South Africa

If you want to get your hands dirty and see physical results from a short placement overseas, our General Building Short-term Special may be the project for you.

This project enables volunteers to play a key role in the building of new, better quality facilities, making the care homes and early learning centres more comfortable and safer places. Daily activities include digging foundations, mixing and pouring cement, building a roof, or putting the finishing coat of paint on the completed building.

Volunteers live with local host families which gives a unique insight into this fascinating country.

At the weekend you will go on a trip with other volunteers and our local staff to see some of the world famous sites of South Africa which may include Table Mountain and Cape Point National Park.

Should you choose to take part in the 4 week option, your tasks will remain the same but you'll be able to see more results in your work over an extended period of time. You'll also have the opportunity to visit Robben Island, do a Peninsula Tour, a Township Tour, and spend time at a local market.

This placement is fully researched, safety audited and risk assessed in accordance with the British Standard BS8848 for the Adventure Travel Sector.
