Mexico sports project

Sports volunteers work in schools and have the opportunity to coach school children football, basketball and volleyball. By taking part in a voluntary School Sports project in Mexico, you can help teach children and young adults the importance of sport and inspire the next generation of sporting talent.

You can volunteer on this project in Mexico without any previous experience in coaching, although it is fantastic if you already have some. Everyone is welcome no matter what stage of life they are at - during a gap year from education or a career break or even as an alternative holiday. All we ask is that you have a passion for sport and a desire to help others develop their own sporting ability.

School Sports in Mexico with Projects Abroad

Football is widely played all over the country and you will often see young children having a kick around in any open spaces in the towns and cities. Even though football is the most popular sport in Mexico, you can also get involved in teaching basketball and volleyball. Children are really keen to participate in a wide variety of sports so feel free to let us know if you have any new ideas

Whichever sports you enjoy, if you have a passion for developing sports in schools you can help to coach children as a volunteer sports coach. Sports volunteers work in either Guadalajara or Ciudad Guzman.

Mexico sports project

In Guadalajara volunteers spend the mornings working in secondary schools, assisting the sports teachers. In Ciudad Guzman volunteers combine assisting the coaches at the University or secondary school three days a week, with working at the centre for street children for the other two days.

As a volunteer you will be working throughout the school term teaching sports alongside local teachers. In the mornings you will usually help with the basic physical education lessons ensuring that each student gets involved in a diverse range of activities both individually and as part of a team. You will be working with children and students of all ages depending on when their physical education lessons take place.

The work will involve coaching children of different levels (beginners, intermediate and advanced) and you may get the opportunity to help prepare the students to take part in local tournaments.

Volunteering Abroad on Sports Projects in Mexico

Helping to involve children and teenagers in sports in Mexico helps them to realise the benefits of living a fitter and healthier lifestyle, as well as giving them a sense of belonging to a team with a shared passion and goal. This in turn has positive benefits for the wider community by focussing the children’s energy in a positive way, and keeping them off the streets. It gives them structure and purpose as well as being great fun.

You can join the Community Sports project in Mexico for two or three weeks if you don't have time to join us for four weeks or more. This project has been selected by our local colleagues as being suitable for short term volunteering for both the host community and the volunteer. Although you will gain a valuable cultural insight and work intensely within the local community, please be aware that you may not be able to make the same impact as someone volunteering for a longer period.

All volunteers taking part on any project in Mexico now have the opportunity to add a 1 Week Conservation Add-On to the end of their main placement.

This placement is fully researched, safety audited and risk assessed in accordance with the British Standard BS8848 for the Adventure Travel Sector.
