Volunteer on an IT Project in India

The IT sector in India has grown to such an extent that schools and colleges have introduced IT education in their curriculum. However, a knowledge gap in basic to advanced IT related skills remains a problem in India and volunteers are needed to help students further their skills.

As an IT volunteer, you will help teach computer programmes like Word and Excel. You will also be able to develop databases and assist with any maintenance work. Although you require IT knowledge, you do not need any IT qualifications to join this placement and your help will be greatly appreciated. Depending on your IT background, you can decide to teach school children or adults

Voluntary Work with Projects Abroad

Volunteers on the IT project have the option to teach IT related skills to students from various schools. You will teach them a variety of computer skills, from switching a computer on and off to explaining programmes such as Word, Excel and Powerpoint. You will also coach them on internet usage for research and communication.

Volunteers are encouraged to make use of educational computer games for the students, who will receive a certificate when they complete their IT course. Your working hours at the schools will be from 9am to 4pm, from Monday to Friday.

For volunteers with advanced IT knowledge, you have the option to teach progressive IT skills to students at nursing colleges, industrial technical institutes and in various other colleges around Jaipur. This will help students with their studies as well as provide better employment opportunities later on.

There will also be the chance for IT volunteers to help with NGO programmes in rural areas. These NGOs run IT education centres and provide computer education for children, youth and women living in rural areas. Women require basic computer skills to manage their micro-credit programmes and volunteers can definitely make a difference in their lives.

You can join the IT project in India for two or three weeks if you don't have time to join us for four weeks or more. This project has been selected by our local colleagues as being suitable for short term volunteering for both the host community and the volunteer. Although you will gain a valuable cultural insight and work intensely within the local community please be aware that you may not be able to make the same impact as someone volunteering for a longer period.

This placement is fully researched, safety audited and risk assessed in accordance with the British Standard BS8848 for the Adventure Travel Sector.
