Clinical Placements in India
You will be based in a dental clinic in Jaipur. You will shadow your supervisor who will speak English. Common procedures you may come into contact with include root canal work, bridges and crowns, implants and minor surgeries. Your supervisor may communicate in Hindi to their patients but will translate back to you. Take a notebook and pen with you to take notes and ensure you record interesting cases and procedures and can discuss them with your supervisor at a later date.
You may also have the chance to take part in dental outreach work. You may shadow a dentist as he or she works as a visiting consultant, or you could help with oral hygiene camps in neighbouring communities.
While on your Dentistry Elective in India you will stay with a local host family. They will show you true Indian hospitality and make you feel very welcome. You can spend your free time exploring the delights of the area with our energetic Projects Abroad volunteer community.
Please be aware that most universities have deadlines by which time your Elective application paperwork must be completed. If your university needs information on the hospital or clinic in which you will be placed, or requires forms to be signed by your project supervisor, we strongly advise completing our application form at least one month before this deadline. We can only provide this detailed information once you have applied and been accepted onto an Elective placement with us.
