Physiotherapist Elective Students can gain experience working in Ghanaian hospitals with Projects Abroad. By shadowing physiotherapy staff, you will learn how treatment is carried out in these facilities. You will be exposed to a wide variety of conditions and treatments which may differ from what you are used to. Certain cases may be at times very challenging to experience, but you will find it hugely rewarding.

When you first arrive at the hospital you will discuss your work schedule with the Projects Abroad co-ordinator and the placement supervisor who will be a member of the hospital staff. You will shadow one of our supervisors who all speak English and are experienced at working with western Physiotherapy students. They will be keen to test out your knowledge as well as give you the benefit of their training and experience.

Physiotherapy options in Ghana

Volunteer on Physiotherapy placement helps a patient in Ghana

Physiotherapy Elective students will be working in Cape Coast, at the main city hospital. It is one of the more modern hospitals in Ghana, with a wide range of departments and a large amount of new equipment. It will, of course, still be quite different to what you may be used to in your home country.

During your elective placement you will live with local host-families. As one of our most popular destinations, there will always be a large Projects Abroad volunteer community available to join you.

Please be aware that most universities have deadlines by which time your Elective application paperwork must be completed. If your university needs information on the hospital or clinic in which you will be placed, or requires forms to be signed by your project supervisor, we strongly advise completing our application form at least one month before this deadline. We can only provide this detailed information once you have applied and been accepted onto an Elective placement with us.

If you have any questions please call us on 01903 441 050.

This placement is fully researched, safety audited and risk assessed in accordance with the British Standard BS8848 for the Adventure Travel Sector.
