Professional Volunteering Opportunities in Consultancy, Cambodia
This volunteer project works with an organisation tackling the stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. They need volunteers to provide financial planning and business advice to people in disadvantaged communities.
The organisation we work with was established in 1994 and is based in Phnom Penh. Their aim is to encourage Buddhist monks to reduce the stigma associated with HIV by educating their communities on the causes, effects, and prevention measures for HIV. As a volunteer at this placement, you will focus on three main areas: Income General Activities (IGA) and the Income General Program (IGP), and helping to provide loans to poor people without making profit or interest.
This project is perfect for anyone considering volunteer work abroad or business people on a career break. You can contribute to the development of small businesses in local communities in Cambodia.
Here you will find answers to the following questions:
How can volunteer consultants help in Cambodia?
As a volunteer consultant you can use your knowledge and training to help local people. You can work on tasks such as:
- Fund raising
- Proposal development
- Conducting meetings with the donor
- Donor reports
- Small business training
- Budget management
- Business planning
- Vocational training
- Job market and business consultation
- Updating the organisation's data base
You will be able to work out an exact schedule with your project supervisor when you arrive. You may want to focus on one business or try to help a variety of people.
This project runs all year round so you can join at any time. You decide how much time you can spare and we will help you get the most out of it.
What will I gain from this project?
This voluntary work abroad will allow you to gain experience of how microfinance can help in the developing world. You will get to work alongside local staff, sharing and creating ideas. Working with people who have been through the serious ordeal of child trafficking will also give you a new perspective on life.
You will spend time in a completely new environment, learning about a different culture and way of life. Local Cambodians and other volunteers will want to hear about your life back home and your family and friends. We call this ‘cultural exchange’ and we think it helps our volunteers gain a new perspective on life.
