No Prior Teaching Experience Required

Volunteer teaching in Argentina is an ideal way to help get involved and improve the English language skills of local children. You can gain invaluable work experience teaching overseas and no TEFL is needed. Whether you want to volunteer teaching during your gap year, career break or during an extended holiday, you will have a role to play on one of our volunteer Teaching projects in Argentina.

Some Background on Argentina

Argentina is the eighth largest country in the world and the second largest country in South America. With its well-educated populace, culture and rich resources, this country has much to offer those who decide to volunteer there.

As the language of business and commerce it is important for English to be taught across the globe and secondary schools in Argentina are keen for pupils to learn English.

Many of the schools in Argentina have local staff who are good at making sure that the children write and read well. However, they don't always have the time or ability to practise the spoken or listening skills that they require to fully develop their abilities. Your skills are particularly needed to encourage the children to practise and improve their conversational English. You can give them the extra help and attention that they need.

Teaching Placements in Argentina

Most of our Teaching placements (both public and private) are located in Córdoba, which is the second largest city in Argentina after Buenos Aires. Volunteers can also work at schools situated in surrounding areas, like Río Ceballos and La Calera.

Voluntary teaching in schools in Argentina offers you the chance to help provide a head-start for pupils in the local secondary schools. This is an opportunity for you to be as creative as possible, helping to make learning English fun and enjoyable. Your help will be greatly appreciated by your students and colleagues, whether you are assisting a teacher, have a class of your own or are taking extracurricular classes.

The impact you have on the lives of your students will be long-lasting, but you will also be part of a much wider volunteer network, which is making a really positive contribution to the communities in which we work.

Spanish is Advisable

We do recommend that all teaching volunteers in Argentina speak some Spanish. Volunteers who do not speak Spanish work in private schools or in informal teaching settings. Volunteers with some Spanish skills work in public schools.

Teach French and Italian

It is also possible to teach French and Italian classes in Argentina, please let us know if you're interested in this option when you apply.

Lesson Planning and Workshops

One of the reasons you don't need any previous teaching experience or qualifications is that we will help you prepare and structure lessons. Our Teaching project coordinators in Argentina organise regular workshops for our volunteers. The workshops will provide you with tools and tips on planning lessons and how to organise your work at your placement. They will help you solve any issues and will be an opportunity to receive and give feedback. Being prepared will help to give you confidence and ensure that you and your students get the most out of the experience.

Stimulating Games and Activities

We also have plenty of suggestions for games and activities that will help to stimulate the students' minds and sustain their enthusiasm and we always welcome new ideas. Through the use of well-prepared materials, games and songs you can engage the students and make them eager to learn.

These will also be taught and discussed in the workshops. Whatever skills and talents you have, volunteering in Argentina will give you the opportunity to put them to good use. Be imaginative with your teaching to make learning fun and enjoyable for the students and yourself!

Teach at Orphanages and Care Centres During School Holidays

The schools in Argentina have their main holidays from the start of December to the end of February, with a shorter holiday in July. During these times volunteers can teach informal lessons at care centres or join our summer school programme.

Your Host Family

Throughout your placement, you will be located near other volunteers and will live with a local host family. This is a brilliant way to become a part of the local community and will give you a real insight into Argentinean life.

You can read more detailed information about the aims of the project in our Argentina Teaching Management Plan.

This placement is fully researched, safety audited and risk assessed in accordance with the British Standard BS8848 for the Adventure Travel Sector.
