If you wish to do your Dentistry Elective with Projects Abroad in Argentina, you will be working in a hospital. You will shadow one of our supervising dentists who are very experienced at working with western students. They will be keen to test out your knowledge, as well as giving you the benefit of their training and experience.

Students on their Dentistry Elective will spend the duration of their time in Argentina in Villa Allende Hospital. The hospital is located in the beautiful Sierras Chicas not far from where our office is based and is one of the largest government run hospitals in the area serving patients from the surrounding regions. The hospital does look quite run down but the equipment and resources are good. You can get involved in many aspects of dentistry depending on your chosen specialism.

Projects Abroad are experienced in supporting students on their Electives. We are able to liaise with your university to ensure the requirements for your Dentistry Elective module are met. We can also help with any paperwork you may have to submit. Your supervisor at the hospital will be qualified and is experienced in mentoring Elective students. For example, they will be available to discuss specific case studies with you for you to submit as part of your elective if required.

Requirements for Elective Students

You will be required to bring proof that you are an Elective student with you to Argentina, along with any transcripts or certificates that state your previous areas of experience. This paperwork, along with your initiative and outlook, will determine the level of trust that is built between yourself and your supervising doctors. As with any job - and certainly those in the medical profession - proving your knowledge and reliability will ultimately determine the level of responsibility you are assigned, and how much you gain from your experience in Argentina.

An intermediate level of Spanish is required for this placement to ensure that you can interact fully with both the local staff and the patients. Elective students should also be of smart appearance.

When you aren’t at work, you will spend your time with your host family experiencing the true Argentinean way of life, and also with the Projects Abroad volunteer community. There is a lot to do in and around Cordoba and you will find that your spare time is easily filled.

Please be aware that most universities have deadlines by which time your Elective application paperwork must be completed. If your university needs information on the hospital or clinic in which you will be placed, or requires forms to be signed by your project supervisor, we strongly advise completing our application form at least one month before this deadline. We can only provide this detailed information once you have applied and been accepted onto an Elective placement with us.
