Volunteer Care work with children overseas in Fiji
Volunteering on a care project in Fiji is an ideal way to get involved with the local community of this fascinating island nation and help improve conditions for disadvantaged children. You can contribute towards this important development work during a gap year, career break, or just a holiday.
Volunteers with specific qualifications and experience are welcome but you do not need to have either to join us as a care volunteer. However, energy, passion and a commitment to improving the situation for some of Fiji’s most underprivileged children is essential.
Voluntary Community Development and Orphanage work with Projects Abroad
The Fijian islands in the South Pacific are home to a courteous, sincere people with ancient traditions, however Fiji is becoming increasingly urbanised and as more people move from the villages to the urban centres levels of deprivation have increased.
There are high numbers of street children in Fijian towns and over the last twenty years squatter settlements, established on the edge of the large towns have become home to thousands of Fijians.
We have various different volunteer care options for you in Fiji, working with street children and in orphanages and care homes. We work in a number of areas in and around the urban centres of Nadi and Lautoka on the east coast of Viti Levu, Fiji’s main island.
Volunteering abroad on a Care Project in Fiji
In whichever volunteer care project in Fiji you find yourself, you need to be ready for a challenge. Many of the children are desperate for attention and there will undoubtedly be children present who have health problems and who need special attention due to disabilities.
It is in your role as a volunteer - spending time with the children, playing with them and putting a smile on their faces - that Projects Abroad volunteers are so valuable.
Whether you are taking a group out for an afternoon trip to the nearby beach, helping older children with school homework or playing a game or reading a story to the younger ones, you will be an essential part of their development. Any extra interests or skills that you have can be put to good use, and please let our local staff know about them when you apply.
