Arsenal and Colden Common Youth Football Clubs Donate Shirts

Kids in matching kit

In the last couple of weeks hundreds of football shirts have been arriving at the Projects Abroad office. Both the Premiership's Arsenal and the more local Colden Common Youth Football Club have sent through a wide selection of shirts.

Jesse Banks-Hudson went out to Togo as the first volunteer on our football project there this summer. On his return he contacted Arsenal, the team he supports, and they sent through a selection of shirts. The shirts have now arrived to great enthusiasm in Togo. A big thank you to Jessye.

Jesse said:
"It wasn't until actually coming to Africa and seeing children kicking footballs of all shapes, sizes and materials at every street corner, and seeing Togo erupt as neighbours Ghana defeated the US to become only the third African team to reach a World Cup quarter-final, that I began to understand what football means to Africa. Togo is obsessed by it, the country's superstar Emmanuel Adebayor is hailed by most as a deity."

Thank you also to Graham Spencer from Colden Common Youth Football team. Graham contacted us earlier in the year to say he had a few spare shirts. We ended up receiving over 200 shirts that are now all around the world. We have young footballers wearing orange Colden shirts in Ghana, Sri Lanka, Malawi and Ukraine. Thank you to everyone at Colden Common for their support.
