Projects Abroad in Peru – Update

Projects Abroad in Peru – Update

After the floods last week the Peru team along with volunteers has been working on the recovery work in the Sacred Valley.

This is the latest update from Peru Director, Tim De Winter.

"We started with handing out fresh food to 11 communal kitchens last week, some in Urubamba, some in Calca. We donated tomatoes, onions, carrots, eggs, lemons and oranges in a total of 2000 kilos and will do so again this week. This is coordinated with the local authorities and takes us about 3 mornings a week.

On Saturday we started with the social and psychological support towards mothers and children who lost everything. Every Thursday, Friday and Saturday we will organise workshops and activities. From the moment school starts again, we will try and organise a few workshops for teachers as well. All this is organised with the local committees in Calca and Yucay.

Projects Abroad in Peru – Update

Today I am having another meeting in Pisonayniyoc, the place that was hit hardest, to see how we can help them with temporary jobs. Gregorio, their president, has asked to help pay for trucks and gasoline, as they have received no help (besides food donations) yet! Luckily we are flexible and will be able to help a little wherever they ask us.

Last Friday I had a meeting with the regional committee as they had heard about the Projects Abroad "Give them work" project and 3000 temporary jobs will be starting this week! I was amazed and very happy, obviously they must have been thinking in similar ways already. It is a good start and it makes it a total of 3482 jobs for two months.

Projects Abroad in Peru – Update

It didn't rain that much this weekend which was good news, even a bit sunny today. We will keep you updated."
