MexicoFiestas, piñatas, tequila, tacos, guacamole, donkeys, sombreros, ruins (archaeological ones, of course), cacti and mariachi. Mexico is all you've ever imagined it to be…and a whole heap more.
By volunteering on one of our Teaching, Care, Conservation and Environment, Culture and Community, Medicine and Healthcare, Journalism and Animal Care placements, you will see a side of the country you could never experience as a visitor to Mexico. Our volunteering projects give you the chance to integrate into the community and experience an amazing culture first hand, by living and working with local people. For those of you who take our Spanish course alongside your placement, you will begin to find the country really comes alive for you as soon as you start to pick up some of the language.
Spend your days playing with and caring for children on our Care projects in Mexico. From babies to teenagers, our Care programmes offer you the opportunity to help out in orphanages, kindergartens and centres for kids with a history of drug addiction. Bring your skills and experiences to enrich the lives of others – by organising a football tournament, teaching a child to write their name or by introducing them to a new instrument, your contribution will give these children memories that could last a lifetime.
Focus on rehabilitating our furry and feathered friends on our Animal Care programme. Our Animal Care centre in Guadalajara works closely with the local Proteccion Civil and cares for both domestic and wild animals, with a particular focus on birds. Your role as a volunteer will be mainly to help with the day to day care of the animals, including feeding and cleaning and also helping the experts with retraining the animals in order to rehabilitate them.
Get your hands dirty on our Arts and Crafts placement in Tlaquepaque. If you would like to truly integrate into the community (whilst avoiding both children and animals), you might like to consider our unique Culture and Community project. By working in a local family workshop you will learn about traditional ceramic techniques and learn the step by step processes of making tiles, mugs, plates and much more. You are free to create products and designs of your own choice, or alternatively, ask the Mexico staff what they are short of and work to restock the office crockery cupboard!
No matter which placement you take, you can be sure that when the work day ends, there will be plenty of friendly locals and volunteers ready to while away the evening with a cold Corona or a lively salsa dance!
