What better time to visit the Ancient City of the Incas than on its 100 year anniversary?

24th July 2011 marks the discovery of Machu Picchu

The century anniversary of the discovery of the magnificent city of Machu Picchu in Peru will be celebrated this year on the 24th July. This date marks explorer Hiram Bingham’s heroic discovery of the ancient ruins and first bringing the site to the attention of the outside world. The area nowadays is available for all to visit, so anyone can discover the hidden secrets of the Incas and explore its wonderful surroundings.

Projects Abroad, the global leader in overseas volunteering and work placement projects, is encouraging people to visit the area especially during this landmark anniversary, to gain a real hands-on experience of local life and the Inca history. Many different projects are available in this area including the ‘Inca Trail Renovation Project’ which allows volunteers to spend time working alongside Peruvian experts on archaeological activities.

What better time to visit the Ancient City of the Incas than on its 100 year anniversary?

The Inca Project is a great choice for anybody interested in archaeology and the history of the Inca civilisation, (and don't mind getting their hands dirty!) Whilst living the lifestyle of the local Peruvian people, volunteers will gain experience in a range of archaeological and historically related work and help with local community projects

Ian Birbeck, a director at Projects Abroad explains, “What better time is there to visit such a historically interesting part of the world? With the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu, along with local villages and a nearby rainforest there is plenty to keep even the keenest explorer busy. Our projects aim to provide the local area with the help it needs, whilst also providing volunteers with a once in a lifetime experience they will never forget.”
